QJs realizes well because it can make pairs, straights and flushes.

3bet when:A late open is wide

QJs can pressure folds, while calling keeps its post-flop playability. a blind-versus-button range is polarized.

Call when:In position or defending the big blind at a fair price

Suitedness adds draws that QJo does not have.

Jam when:A short-stack range selects it from late position

Use the stack and opening range, not suitedness alone.

Fold when:A tight early range or strong 4-bet applies pressure

QJs makes a queen-high flush and a Broadway straight on A♠ K♠ T♠. It is a made hand, but not the nut flush.

Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets
  • Call: Defend in position against a wide 3-bet when the price preserves implied odds for straights and flushes.
  • 3-bet: Use QJs as a polarized 3-bet when the opener folds enough and QJs is not needed as a call.
  • Fold: Fold more often out of position against a tight 3-bet range.
Versus 4-bets
  • Fold: QJs usually folds to a value-heavy 4-bet.
  • Continue only: A blind-versus-blind tree with small sizing can justify a rare continue.
Post-flop playability
  • Value: Top pair can bet for value against worse Qx and Jx, but better shared-rank broadways remain possible.
  • Straight draws: On T-9-x QJs has an open-ended straight draw. On K-T-x it has a gutshot to the Broadway straight.
  • Flushes: Three spades on the board give QJs a flush, but a higher spade can still make a better flush. Track the blocker and the board pairing.
