QQ is present throughout the opening ranges, but the action is not always a pure open.

3bet when:Facing an open from a range with enough worse hands

3-bet for value while adjusting the sizing to position and stack depth.

Call when:Call to keep worse hands in the pot or versus some 4-bets

Keep bluffs and worse pairs in the pot when position and sizing favor a call.

Jam when:Short-stack charts or the 4-bet tree calls for it

The decision is not identical in chip EV and under ICM.

Fold when:A very tight range and the action remove enough worse hands

Folding QQ preflop is rare, but not impossible in extreme tournament spots.

TT is an even clearer lower-pair value target when it continues preflop. QQ should still respect a range that represents a stronger hand.

    AA is ahead of QQ preflop. An Ace appearing leaves QQ as an underpair, so several streets of value require a range-based reason.

    KK

    KK is the other higher pair and can keep QQ in difficult one-pair situations. QQ needs a set or a bluff-catching read to win a large pot.

Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets
  • 4-bet: QQ is usually a value 4-bet against an open and 3-bet range that contains worse pairs and broadways.
  • Call: A call can keep bluffs and dominated pairs in the pot when positions, sizings, and ranges make that line stronger.
  • Fold: Do not force a 4-bet when the positions and range construction leave almost no worse hands.
Versus 4-bets
  • Continue: Against a wide 4-bet range, QQ can call or 5-bet all-in according to sizing and stack depth.
  • Slow down: Against a tight position-specific 4-bet, calling may preserve a better postflop plan than an automatic stack-off.
  • ICM: Near pay jumps, ICM can make a fold correct even when the same ranges would continue for chip EV.
Post-flop playability
  • Low boards: QQ is an overpair on low coordinated boards and can value bet against lower pairs and draws, subject to the action and range.
  • Overcard boards: On an ace- or king-high board, QQ is a pair below the high card and should check more often against ranges containing that overcard.
  • Queen on the flop: A flop queen gives QQ a set. That changes QQ from an overpair into a strong value hand, subject to the board's draws.
