King-Eight Offsuit

K8o is playable only in selected late-position steals and Big Blind defenses. The eight is still a weak kicker, and the offsuit structure leaves little room to draw.

Open when:Button or Small Blind in a chart-approved unopened pot

Stack depth and blind tendencies decide whether fold equity is enough.

3bet when:Rarely as a blocker bluff from the Small Blind

Do not use it for value or against a tight continuing range.

Call when:Defending the Big Blind against a wide late open

A good price can offset weak realization. Fold against early opens and most 3-bets.

Jam when:A 10-15bb late-position chart supports an open-jam

At 20bb+ it usually prefers a raise or fold decision.

Fold when:Facing tight action or a 3-bet

Top pair is often second-best to KQ, KJ, KT or AK.

K7o shares the King but has the weaker kicker, making a dominated pair that can still pay K8o.

Weak against

AKo
AKo shares the King with the better kicker, so K8o can make a costly second-best pair.

Top two pair

On K♠ 8♥ 5♣, value bet K8o while watching for straight draws and better two pair.

Eight-high pair

On 8♦ 6♣ 2♥, the pair is ahead of misses but behind many continues. Check or bet small against a wide range.

Dry king-high board

On K♣ 4♦ 2♥, top pair has thin value. Keep the pot small against a tight range.

Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets

Fold to standard 3-bets. The king blocker helps, but K8o realizes poorly when called.
Do not turn top pair into a stack-off hand. A tight range has many better kings and overpairs.

Post-flop playability

On a king-high flop, use small sizing or check. K8o can take one thin value street, not automatically three.
On low connected boards, the eight offers some pair equity but no four-card flush draw. Continue only with a direct draw and the right price.
Position improves the value of checking back. Out of position, avoid defending marginal pairs against repeated bets.
