Versus 3-bets

Post-flop playability
  • Top pair: When an Ace flops without an Eight, A8o has top pair with an Eight kicker. Check more often and bluff-catch selectively because A9o and better Ax dominate it.
  • Pair of Eights: An Eight on a low board can make a pair, but stronger pairs and draws can put A8o under pressure quickly.
  • Missed flop: On a flop without an Ace or Eight and without three connected ranks, A8o has only ace-high and no direct draw. Fold to pressure unless the position and action create a specific bluff.
