Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets
  • Fold: A tight 3-bet range contains too many better Ax hands and pairs.
  • Continue conditionally: Defend only from the big blind when the price and range justify it.
Post-flop playability
  • Top pair: When an ace flops without a six, A6o has top pair with a six kicker and usually a bluff catcher against strong action.
  • Straight routes: On a 9-8-7 flop, A6o has an open-ended draw to a 5 or T. With only one of those ranks, it has no made straight.
  • Missed flop: Without a pair or a real draw, check-fold against pressure.
