Seven-Deuce Suited

72s is a four-gapper, not a connector. Its suitedness is its main asset, but a seven-high flush is often dominated and the rank gap leaves almost no straight development. Use it only in late-position or Big Blind branches where price, position, and depth compensate for its weak pairs.

Flop classes

Two pair

On 7♠ 2♦ K♣, 72s flops two pair. Keep raises and later-street pots controlled because higher two pair and sets are possible.

Gutshot and backdoor flush

On 9♣ 6♦ 5♥, 72s has a gutshot to an eight for 5-6-7-8-9. It has no immediate flush draw on this rainbow flop.

Complete miss

On A♣ Q♦ 3♥, 72s has no pair or immediate straight draw. Give up against ordinary continuation pressure.

Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets

Fold essentially always. A four-gapper cannot defend often enough against a 3-bet range.
If opened from the Small Blind and 3-bet, fold even more strictly out of position.

Post-flop playability

The Seven and Deuce have almost no shared straight routes. A rare gutshot still needs a precise board and a good price, do not treat 72s like a connected hand.
Two spades on the flop give a flush draw, but a seven-high flush loses to every higher flush. Be cautious when the board is paired or the pot is multiway.
A pair of sevens has the worst possible kicker. A pair of deuces should usually fold to meaningful aggression without a draw.
