Versus 3-bets

Fold most of the time against a strong 3-bet. The gap reduces the number of clean flops and 64s does not block the strongest holdings.
Defend only when position, price, and effective depth give it room to realize a straight or flush without overpaying for a dominated draw.

Post-flop playability

64s can move from a gutshot to a made low straight as the middle ranks arrive. Check the exact ranks before assuming that a connected-looking flop gives a strong draw.
When the flop supplies the middle of one of its low-straight routes, 64s can have an open-ended draw. It is still a draw, not a made straight, until the completing card arrives.
