Jack-Six Offsuit

J6o is a weak offsuit Jack with a badly exposed kicker. Open it only in the widest late-position charts, and fold to most voluntary action. A free big-blind flop is not a reason to continue without a pair, a precise straight draw, or a very good price.

Open when:Only in the widest late-position charts

The button or small blind must face folded action, and stack depth should support the steal.

3bet when:Almost never

J6o has no flush blocker and too little post-flop equity to bluff against a continuing range.

Call when:Mostly never, except for a free big-blind flop

Calling a raise out of position leaves the weak kicker and poor connectivity exposed.

Jam when:Only in a charted short-stack steal

At 10 to 15 big blinds, position and fold equity matter more than J6o's post-flop playability.

Fold when:Facing normal opens, 3-bets, or pressure

Better Jx hands dominate the Jack pair, and the Six rarely supplies a clean second pair.

Flop classes

Jack-high dry

J♠ gives top pair, but J6o is behind better Jx and has no flush draw. Check more often and use small calls against wide, capped betting.

Six-high connected

A pair of Sixes is vulnerable to overpairs, better pairs, and straight draws. Continue only with a good price or extra backdoor equity.

Complete miss

With no pair and no direct draw, check-fold to pressure, especially out of position.

Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets

Fold: J6o should not defend a normal 3-bet: its six kicker makes a jack pair expensive when ranges continue strong.
Do not continue with a weak blocker: The Jack removes some Jx combinations, but J6o has no flush equity and poor straight development.

Post-flop playability

Control a Jack pair: The Six kicker loses to many Jx hands in an opener's or 3-bettor's range, so keep the pot small.
Count only real straight draws: J6 can make a runner-runner straight, but it does not flop an open-ended straight draw.
Give up on disconnected misses: Out of position, with no initiative and a low SPR, betting air creates expensive folds without useful equity.
