Ten-Four Offsuit

T4o is still a fold-first hand, but the four connects with low boards more often than T2o or T3o. Its main risk is domination: when a ten pairs, stronger Tx hands often have the same top pair with a better kicker. Use the extra connectivity only when you see a free flop or a very specific short-stack chart.

T4o remains too weak for a default open. the latest position in a very favorable chart.

3bet when:Almost never

Its blocker profile is poor and its postflop equity is fragile.

Call when:Mainly after a free big-blind check

Do not defend a paid blind call merely because four and ten can connect.

Jam when:Only with explicit short-stack chart support

Stack depth and fold equity must do most of the work.

Fold when:Standard opens and 3-bets

Fold when the price does not buy a clear realization advantage.

Flop classes

Ten-high top pair

Check back or bluff-catch small sizing only against a wide range. Better tens make the same pair with a superior kicker.

Open-ended straight draw

The 4 with 5-6-7 gives eight outs to a straight. Continue with the right price and fold to heavy pressure.

Low pair with a backdoor

A four on 4-8-K gives a weak pair and a backdoor straight route, not a hand to inflate without initiative.

Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets

Fold: T4o is not strong enough to defend against a 3-bet without an exceptional price.
Avoid bluff 4-bets: T4o does not block enough strong continuing hands to compensate for its weak equity.

Post-flop playability

Keep one-pair pots small: A ten is often a dominated top pair, while a four pair has little showdown value.
Look for the 4-5-6 connection: With a flop of 4-5-6, the ten is irrelevant and the four supplies an open-ended straight draw.
Position matters: In position, check back some weak pairs. Out of position, fold more often to a second barrel.
