On T♥ 8♦ 4♣, KTo has top pair with a king kicker. It can value-bet small against worse tens, then slow down against strong resistance.

Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets
  • Call: In position, defend KTo against a wide opener when the price supports its Q-J-9 gutshot routes and the range is not too strong.
  • Fold: Against tight ranges or out of position, fold more often because better Kx and broadways dominate its pair outcomes.
Versus 4-bets
  • Fold: KTo cannot rely on its king blocker against a normal 4-bet. The ten kicker and offsuit form make the call unattractive.
  • Continue only: A blind-versus-blind exception needs a very wide range and a sizing that does not punish its dominated top pairs.
Post-flop playability
  • Value: KTo can value-bet top pair against weaker Kx and draws, but not automatically against a range that contains AK, KQ, or KJ.
  • Straight draws: On Q-J-9, KTo has a gutshot to a ten for 9-T-J-Q-K. This offsuit holding has no flush draw from its hole cards.
  • Control: On dry king-high boards, check or use a small size. Out of position, release weak pairs more often against sustained pressure.
