Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets
  • Fold to most 3-bets. Call only in position against a wide range with a favorable price.
  • Do not overvalue the king blocker. A 3-bet range that continues has many better kings and strong pairs.
Post-flop playability
  • On king-high boards, bet small or check with one pair. The seven kicker is not a reason to play a large pot.
  • With two same-suit hole cards and two matching flop cards, K7s has a four-card king-high flush draw. It is not the nut-flush draw because the ace of spades is still available.
  • K7 has more straight connectivity than K6, but a flop such as a straight still gives no direct straight draw. Position and price govern continuation.
