Strategic notes

Versus 3-bets
  • Call selectively in position against a wide late open. Fold more often from the Small Blind or against an early-position range.
  • A 4-bet is a fold in standard play. K9s blocks some strong kings, but it does not have enough equity to continue against a tight 4-bet range.
Versus 4-bets

Fold to standard 4-bets. Continue only if a specific blind-versus-blind chart gives a very narrow exception.

Post-flop playability
  • K9s can make a four-card flush draw with two same-suit hole cards and two matching flop cards. It is a king-high non-nut flush draw because the ace of spades is still available.
  • The nine gives real straight connectivity. A nine-high flop can make top pair, while a separate connected texture can provide an open-ended draw. Identify the exact board before choosing a line.
  • On king-high boards, control the pot when the draw is absent. Position lets you check back marginal top pair and reach showdown.
